Denomination and History

Refreshing Springs Ministry, formerly of Maryland and now Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, was founded in June 2004 under the leadership of the Holy Spirit and pastored by Pastor Tega Swann. Pastor Tega Swann has been in active ministry since 1998. She first served as a lay church worker in Victory International World Outreach (also known as Chapel of Victory) in Port-Harcourt Nigeria from 1998-April 1999. She later served in Christ's Disciples Church, MD (now known as Liberty Ministries, DC) from June 1999-September 2001 first as a lay worker and later as an associate minister. She returned to Victory International Ministeries, MD, to serve as an Associate Minister from January 2002-May 2003.

Refreshing Springs Ministry is a full-gospel denomination with a heart for calling God's people back to repentance and into the plenty of God's supply. We do this through the various arms of the church which are biblically based and run. These include weekly bible studies, sunday worship, biblically based seminars, women's retreat (annual) and liaisons with neighboring shelters to share God's love .

If you live in the Pennsylvania area, come visit with us. There is a heart and a place for you here, where you can learn, experience and walk in the love God has for you.

A Parable About Purpose

Consider this contemporary parable:

Many boating accidents occurred in the waters off a sleepy seaport town. The residents realized that if they banded together to form a lifesaving station, they could rescue people quickly from boating accidents. So they collected money and bought lifesaving equipment and a rescue boat. They hired a helicopter pilot in town to be on call for emergencies. Many of the townspeople were trained in lifesaving techniques.

When the first accident occurred, they saved every person involved. This continued for some time.

Over the years, the lifesaving group became so popular that they bought a Ping-Pong table for the station. People were hired to maintain the building and grounds and teachers were hired to give lessons in swimming, and later in water polo. The name was even changed to "The Water Sports Club."

The rescue boats fell into disrepair and the trained lifesavers moved away. No one could remember the helicopter pilot's name or phone number. When storms occurred, they had to call in experts from far away to help because they weren't used to rescuing people anymore. Many victims drowned because the lifesaving station forgot its purpose.

The lifesaving station represents the church that understands that its purpose is to advance God's kingdom by reaching out to the lost. Christ reached out to the lost in several ways, one of which was showing compassion to the diseased, hungry, and oppressed.

The discipling of the nations is the purpose on which Christ asks us to focus. It's easy to lose sight of this purpose, especially for Christians who are relatively rich by global standards and insulated in an affluent society.

As most of us would admit to a degree of materialism and selfishness, our churches can easily become more like the club meeting than the lifesaving station. Reflect on the following comparisons between the "lifesaving station" church and the "club meeting" church:

Lifesaving Station

Committed To
Families working together for God's causes: to reach out to the lost, show compassion to the diseased, hungry, oppressed (both to those who are lost as well as to those in Christ) in the community and all over the world
Cultural Status Quo
Challenges the materialism and selfishness of our culture
Time and Money
50 percent or more of time and resources spent ministering to others

Club Meeting

Committed To
Maintaining and building a strong church and creating a good environment for children
Cultural Status Quo
Panders to the materialism and selfishness of our culture
Time and Money
No more than 20 percent of time and resources invested in ministry outside of the church building
